Strange footsteps and other auditory phenomena are also common. Some staff have reportedly seen the ghosts of sailors staring them in the face, while others claim mysterious shadows move around in the building. There are many reports of paranormal activity at this place. Slayings weren't uncommon at the inn, and fights were as plentiful as drinks during its heyday. The Haunted Eliza Thompson House The Eliza Thompson House is one of the most beautiful inns in Savannah. It had operated as an inn and tavern, and locals considered it one of the most dangerous places in the city. Now a restaurant, this building is located only one block from the river and was once a haven for sailors and pirates. The location of the hotel is perfect - far enough away from the busy parts of town but close enough for a nice 15 minute walk through nice green squares to get there.Originally constructed in 1753, the Pirates' House is one of the oldest surviving structures in Georgia. We called ahead to notify them that one in our party is vegan, and the chef made a delicious special meal of grits with vegetables. Breakfast in the morning was equally delicious. The staff is very friendly and we had a nice time chatting with them and the other guests. Inn, the Eliza Thompson House, the East Bay Inn the Gastonian. Located at 5 West Jones Street, the home now known as The Eliza Thompson House was built in 1847 for a prosperous cotton dealer and his family. The room itself was extremely clean and had all the necessary amenities. The neighborhood feels quite safe and the room has a double lock, so we weren't concerned about security. It has a private entrance on the ground floor, which was massively convenient. We (group of 3 friends) stayed in the Telfair room. The home has rooms on four levels, most of which involve some stairs. This property is not accessible, and there are no accessible guest rooms. Recommended by Conde Nast Johansens and known for superior service, this inn is private, peaceful, and just a short walk from Savannahs most-loved historic attractions. After a short tour of the beautiful facilities, we were shown to our room. The Eliza Thompson House was built in 1847 and is registered with the Historic Savannah Foundation as an authentic historic property. We didn't have to pay for parking as we were there on a weekend, which was a pleasant surprise. Masks were enforced and the staff were taking precautions to keep things feeling safe. I had SUCH a great experience at Eliza Thompson House that I was compelled to write my first ever review! Check-in was a breeze as we had completed the online form ahead of time.
